@Vladan - SugarCRM Community doesn't have recurring events. Pro has the concept of workflows which can be used for this purpose. We're using the community ediiton and just purchased an add-on module this morning called "Process Manager" from SierraCRM. It enables you to make processes that kick off emails, create calls, tasks or run custom php scripts on a time delay and based on events like modifying or creating an object in Sugar. You can set filters too (ie. if the status of any lead is switched to "in process," start doing stuff). It's affordable and so far they've been very responsive to support inquiries. I have no affiliation with them other than being a customer: http://www.sierracrm.com/PMProducts.html

The email functionality is downright horrible to say the least. This is basic stuff. An end-user with their own email address cannot send an email. The admin receives a duplicate of every email sent. Not good! The system is nice but falls short of basic functionality which is crucial to any CRM.

A pretty short blog compared to why vtiger sucks

This quote worries me "Thomas, Thanks for the kind words. In the 5.1 release (due Dec’07)" > Sreenivas Kanumuru

Its June 09 now and I don't see 5.1 on the horizon yet (apart from beta)

Unfortunatly, by then the vTiger we are integrating will be nothing like the one you are producing and we're not really planning on upgrading.
Functionality is great, but the way things are it seems like you should look at the coding style and structure before you add any more functionality.

Thomas, Thanks for the kind words. In the 5.1 release (due Dec'07) and the next major release 6.0 we hope to make significant improvements in functionality and performance that would make vtiger even more compelling for CRM users.

Have you looked at SugarCRM at all? We're using vTiger at our company as well and I share some of the same gripes from your previous post. I would also add:

11. javascript email validation is annoying because it mistakenly disallows addresses like .info. The workaround is to leave it blank on the new contact form and update it once it's added using the edit field link.
12. their recurring event scheduling only allows for 1st and last of something so you can't handle "second tuesday of the month" for a recurring event.
13. I don't see how you send non-HTML emails via their system

gripes aside, it's hard to argue with free though...

vTiger was just a fork of SugarCRM so you might take a look at it if you haven't already. Using the JumpBox is the quickest way I know of to evaluate them side-by-side-> http://www.jumpbox.com/jumpbox-for-the-sugarcrm-crm-system
